Why you Should only Write 3-5 Task Daily
You've probably heard of goal setting. It's a popular concept for a good reason: it works!
But how many goals should you set? How often should you review them? And what about those pesky "SMART" criteria? We're going to answer all these questions and more in this article.
The Benefits of Writing 3-5 Goals Daily
You'll focus on what's important.
Your goals will be achievable, so you can make them happen.
You'll stay organized and not get overwhelmed by everything you want to achieve.
How to Set Your Goals
Set SMART goals.
Break your goals into smaller tasks.
Prioritize your goals based on their importance and urgency, then work on them in order of priority as much as possible (known as the Eisenhower Matrix).
Creating a Schedule to Reach Your Goals
Now that you have your goals, it's time to create a schedule for each one. This is where you will start to see the actual value of having a goal-setting system in place.
Create a timeline for each goal: First, write down the date when you want to achieve your goal (e.g., "by December 31st"). Next, break down this date into weeks or months depending on how long it will take for that particular project/task/goal, and write those dates next to each other (e.g., "June 1st - July 30th"). Finally, divide up those weeks/months into days by writing down numbers 1 through 30 next to each day within those weeks/months (e.g., "1-10" means week one). You have an exact timeline with specific dates and times allocated toward achieving your goals!
Allocate time for each task: Once again, using our example above where we want our novel finished by December 31, 2023; we need some way of ensuring that we don't miss any deadlines along the way, so let's say our plan includes writing 500 words per day until completion which would mean working on our novel every single day without fail until 2023 comes around! We know from experience that life happens, so let's add some buffer space into our schedule in case something unexpected happens, like getting sick or needing extra time off work due to sick kids, etc... As such, instead of committing ourselves 100% every single day until 2023, here are some suggestions based on different scenarios:
Tips for Staying Motivated
Set rewards for reaching goals.
Break tasks into smaller chunks.
Take breaks every hour or so, even if it's just a few minutes away from your desk or computer screen.
The Pitfalls of Writing Too Many Goals
There are a few pitfalls to avoid when writing your goals. If you're feeling overwhelmed, there are likely too many tasks on your plate, and you need more time to complete them all. This can lead to a lack of focus and motivation and procrastination, which will prevent you from achieving any of your goals!
If this sounds familiar, then it might be time for some goal-setting tips:
Conclusion
You should only write 3-5 goals daily.
It requires more work to make a long list of daily goals. If you have more than five, then it's too many.
You are more likely to achieve your goals if they are specific and measurable.
